Caledon Public Library excited to launch new makerspace programs in 2024Creative Caledon residents may want to check out library offerings By ZACHARY ROMAN Local Journalism Initiative Reporter There are many exciting new programs available at local library branches in 2024. The Caledon Public Library (CPL) is introducing a new slate of makerspace programs where residents can learn all about the new technologies available to Caledon residents at their library branches. The CPL hopes the programs will encourage people to explore their creativity. The CPL has makerspaces in its Margaret Dunn Valleywood Collaboration Studio and Cory Trépanier Creativity Studio (Caledon East) branches. The spaces include tools like Cricut machines, 3-D printers, laser engraving machines and more. Registration for January makerspace programs opened on January 2 on the CPL's website: caledon.library.on.ca. On January 10 and 18, the CPL will be showing people how to make a personalized apron using a Cricut machine and heat-transfer vinyl. The January 10 class is at 2 p.m. in Valleywood and the January 18 class is at 2 p.m. in Caledon East. Those interested in sewing might want to check out the CPL's “Learn to Sew a Reading Pocket Pillow” program at 6 p.m. on January 16 at the CPL's Caledon Village branch. There's also the “Fabric Book Basket Sewing Workshop” at 10:30 a.m. on January 20 at the Margaret Dunn Valleywood branch. On January 31 at 6 p.m. the CPL is hosting a unique class where residents can learn to make a laser-engraved charcuterie board. This class is being held at the Caledon East branch. Residents interested in designing their own projects can attend the CPL's “Design for Cricut and Glowforge” class at 6 p.m. on January 18 at the Valleywood branch. Starting on January 9, the CPL will begin hosting drop-in time for teens at the Cory Trépanier Creativity Studio from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, with a rotating slate of activities and projects. All residents need to join a CPL makerspace program is their library card. More information about these and other CPL programs is available on the CPL's website. |
