Caledon OPP adds four new members to its auxiliary unitThe auxiliary unit of Caledon OPP welcomed four new members to their ranks June 20. The 25-member unit continues to assist regular members by attending community events, hosting Child Car Seat Clinics, Community Policing initiatives and projects, regular patrol, crime and disaster scenes and large gatherings or parades for crowd and traffic control. Training for the new members included a 60-hour recruit training course dealing with powers of arrest, OPP policy and procedures, radio training, note-taking, self-defence, use of force, traffic control and firearms training. The mandate of the Provincial Auxiliary Program is to provide fully trained volunteer Auxiliary members to assist in the delivery of traffic safety and community-based crime prevention initiatives, and to perform police duties only in special circumstances, including an emergency that the police officers of the OPP are not sufficiently numerous to deal with. “We are very pleased to welcome Auxiliary Constables McNeil, Grewal, Kular and Johnston to the Caledon Detachment,” commented detachment commander Inspector Tim Melanson. “Our Auxiliary members have great pride in the work they do to assist us in making Caledon a safer place to live and work.” |
