Caledon hosts climate change conversations

Written By ALYSSA PARKHILL

Caledon has been creating action plans on different ways  we can help our environment, and a variety of strategies that the community can do to lend a hand.

The Community Climate Change Action Plan was created for the community to come together to battle the ongoing issue of climate change.

“The Climate Change Plan is a community plan, so it is important that we have community members and conservation authority partner organizations provide strategic feedback through our planning process,” says Katelyn McFadyen, Manager of Energy and Environment at the Town of Caledon. “This will help to ensure that have buy in for the final actions in our plan, and that plan reflects the ideas and values of our local community.”

To gather community responses, the Town of Caledon is hosting Community Climate Conversations and Do it Yourself workshops for the community to provide their thoughts and discussions on different ways everyone as a community can contribute.

The Task Force is made up of several members from the Town including staff from storm water, policy planning and transportation engineering, as well as the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) and several members of the community.

“The purpose of these conversations is to provide the community with a flexible format to provide their ideas and feedback for what actions the Town should consider in the update of it's Community Climate Action Plan,” explains McFadyen. “The goal of these workshops is to provide a forum to discuss climate change and understand the different opinions and ideas of the community.”

There are two main focuses that the Town speaks to the community about at the conversations, which are climate change mitigation on how the community can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and climate change adaption to better prepare for increased weather changes.

The last Community Climate Conversation will be held on Dec 14 at 3 p.m. at the Caledon East Community Complex.
