In an April 24 media release, Town communications staff announced Domenica D'Amico had been hired as Caledon's new commissioner of engineering, public works and transportation. Her first day on the job will be June 17.  D'Amico will be in charge of Caledon's engineering, operations, facilities, and energy management/climate change business units. She'll also be tasked with providing oversight on her department's operating and capital budgets. The Town stated that D'Amico has over 26 years of professional engineering experience in progressively senior roles. She previously worked at WSP, an engineering and professional services firm. Her most recent role there was director of the Ontario roads team, and staff said in that role she oversaw the work of 35 professional engineers and technical staff on major municipal projects like road design and contract administration. “She also has extensive experience in environmental assessments, intelligent transportation systems and major highway interchange construction,” said staff in the release. Staff said D'Amico is a “talented people leader and expert project manager with a strong eye for cost containment.” D'Amico has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering degree from the University of Toronto. She's a member of Toronto Metropolitan University's Civil Engineering Advisory Council, and has previously served on the board of directors for the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of Ontario.
