Caledon hires new chief of staff for Mayor Annette Groves

Hiring was announced alongside corporate realignment

There's a new leader working for the Town of Caledon. 

On March 13, Nathan Grundy began working for the Town as Chief of Staff for Mayor Annette Groves. 

The chief of staff is in charge of providing strategic advice and supporting Town relationships with external community groups and stakeholders. According to the Town, Grundy will work with various levels of government under Groves' direction, and be in charge of staffing in the Mayor and Council's office. 

In an email to the Citizen, the Town's communications staff said Grundy is an “accomplished government and stakeholder relations leader” and that he is “highly skilled in public policy and legislative affairs, with more than a decade of provincial and federal government experience.”

The email goes on to say that he's looking forward to serving Council, Caledon residents, and working with other Town of Caledon staff.  

The hiring of Grundy was announced in a March 8 Town of Caledon media release which also detailed changes to the Town's corporate structure.

When Caledon's 2023 Budget was approved, Caledon's Chief Administrative Officer, Carey Herd realigned some Town staff to “enhance organizational excellence” and to “prepare for future growth, modernize services and better serve Caledon residents.”

The Town's Community Services department now reports directly to Catherine McLean, Caledon's Director of Community Services. The Town's Community Services department has expanded to include the Town's Customer Service, Communications, Recreation, Facilities, and Economic Development departments.

According to the Town, the realignment of these staff teams is a natural way to increase collaboration and focus on providing better service to Caledon residents and businesses.

Another change announced is that Caledon's Parks Department will now report to Caledon's Chief Planner, Antoinetta Minichillo. Caledon's Planning Department has also expanded, and now includes strategic policy planning, development planning, and parks and natural heritage staff.

According to the Town, that change will “better position staff to support our growth management model, our community and manage the impacts of Bill 23.”

In the release, Herd said she's confident in her team and believes the changes will raise the quality of service Caledon provides to its residents. 

“Realigning these teams better positions the municipality to prepare for future growth,” said Herd.
