Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club is on the move

The Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club is celebrating the acquisition of new land in the Hockley Valley.
More than 3,000 people were out recently for a fundraising event. Hike leaders led a variety of walks through the property, followed by a barbecue lunch donated by local real estate agent Chris Richie and Harmony Whole Foods. In excess of $10,000 was.
Cedar Highlands, a former ski resort, offers beautiful vistas to the north, mature hardwood trees and wooded ravines. In the next few months the planned reroute will follow some of the ski runs long since abandoned, and connect to the trail on the East side of Airport Road, about six kilometres north of Highway 9.
The Cheltenham Badlands and the Devil's Pulpit are two other popular features in the section of the trail.
Securing the optimum hiking corridor from Tobermory to Niagara is the goal of the Bruce Trail Conservancy. Members are familiar with updates to the trail which occur due to the acquisition of new land. A significant portion of the trail still relies on existing roads and the generosity of private owners who give permission to use their property. This is a temporary solution until the club can acquire complete ownership of the route.
In 2012, the Conservancy celebrated its 50th Anniversary. During that year, five new nature preserves were acquired through private donations, protecting close to 300 acres of natural Escarpment landscape.
Next year will see a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Caledon Hills Club.
