Caledon Hawks midgets had a successful November

December 3, 2014   ·   0 Comments

The Caledon Hawks Midget AA team finished up October with a three-game winning streak against Guelph Gryphons, Stoney Creek Warriors and Orangeville Flyers.
November got off to an equally successful start. Justin Donatelli popped the Caledon goal in a 1-1 game against newcomers Niagara Falls Flyers Nov. 1. Rookies Franco Zuccato and Dylan Frail were the playmakers.
An action packed game in Georgetown ended up in a 1-1 stalemate. Halton Hills Thunder scored in the first, but then David Ryan’s wrist shot late in the second went past the opposing goalie and right through the mesh. After a quick discussion and net check by the officials, the goal was determined good. This game ended 1-1.
The match in Oakville Nov. 6 was full of penalties for both teams. Joseph Ranieri, assisted by Ryan and Shane Sommers, scored on a second period Caledon power play. Caledon goalie Nicholas Biamonte kept the game at a tie after stopping the Oakville penalty shot. Defenceman Lucas Mizzi scored half way through the third, but Oakville immediately came back with a power play goal. The final score was 2-2.
A home game against Halton Hills Nov. 10 saw the visitors scoring early in the first. A beauty wrist shot from Sean Nottle off a pass from Mizzi tied things up in the second. Goalie Evan Barlow made a series of great saves in the last minute of the game to maintain the 1-1 final score for his team.
The Brampton 45’s were victims of the Hawks Nov. 13. Nottle received a nice pass in tight at the net from Donatelli and sunk the first goal. Donatelli scored mid way in the second with Sommers and Zuccato helping. Sommers’ unassisted goal three minutes later proved to be the winner. Without veterans Noah Spagnuolo, Tyler Whitten and Lukas Richardson, who were on the injured list, the team pulled it up a notch and outplayed their opponents to achieve the 3-0 win. Goalie Biamonte perfectly blocked all 24 Brampton shots.
Nov. 19, the Hawks were hot in freezing Chippawa, handing the Niagara Falls Flyers a 5-2 loss. Nottle got the first Caledon goal with Nick Curro setting him up. Braydon Rocca took a pass from Dylan Frail and sunk a power play goal in the second. Less than a minute after a Flyer goal, Joseph Ranieri pulled his team ahead by two with an unassisted effort. In the third, Tyler Whitten fired one past the opposing goalie from a nice drop pass from winger Nicholas DeFazio. Frail scored the fifth Caledon goal with Rocca and Kevin Pleasance awarded the assists. Goaltending for this game was covered by Barlow.
