Caledon FC slams Orangeville with 5-1 win on the roadBy Brian Lockhart Caledon FC pulled off a huge win on the road last Thursday night, leaving Orangeville with a 5-1 win over the host team. The Caledon squad entered the game as a ninth-place team going up against the Orangeville Athletics, who are in fifth spot in the Ontario Soccer League South Division with a 4-2-3 record. It wasn't so much that Caledon won the game, it was the fact that they scored five goals over an experienced opponent — and they did it with a short bench. The Caledon team had just enough players to field a team, leaving the bench empty, with coach Angelo Pennino there by himself. It didn't seem to matter, as the Caledon squad was aggressive and battling hard from the start of the game. They scored the first goal early in the first half, with a nice pass across the front of the net. A second Caledon goal came on a penalty kick. It was win number four for the team this season. They have not quite made it to the mid-season mark. With nine games behind them, they still have 11 on the schedule for the regular season. The Guelph Rangers are currently leading the South Division of the OSL with 19 points after eight games. They are followed by Wisla United with 19 points and game in hand after nine matches played this season. Coatia Norval is in third place in the league, followed by Mississauga Portofino. Caledon FC will be back on their home pitch at the East Caledon Community Park tonight (Thursday) to host the Erin Mills Eagles with a 9 p.m. start. |
