Caledon, Conservation Authority celebrate 10 Years of West Bolton SNAP![]() By Riley Murphy Local Journalism Initiative Reporter The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is hosting an event to celebrate the closure of the West Bolton SNAP initiative. The SNAP initiative, Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program, is an urban renewal initiative by the TRCA that transforms urban neighbourhoods into “greener, climate-resilient communities through tailored, on-the-ground action plans and grassroots community partnerships.” The initiative develops action plans to improve the local environment at a smaller, neighbourhood scale and builds resilience against climate change by “greening local infrastructure and encouraging positive behaviour changes among residents.” West Bolton SNAP began 10 years ago and focuses on a “mature neighbourhood” in Bolton within the Humber River watershed. According to TRCA's website, the overarching theme of the West Bolton SNAP Action Plan is bringing people, nature, and places together. The theme was made to reflect “local interest in connectivity: physical to local destinations, natural areas and people, and emotional connection to and recognition of the neighbourhood's history and future.” Over the years, they have had various projects, including the Hidden Creek Walk, the Green Home Makeover, the Green Home Program, the Trail and Places Master Plan, and Heritage Hills Parkette. Now, TRCA is celebrating the closing of West Bolton SNAP on June 18. At the event, they will celebrate and recognize the range of projects, programs, and events implemented over a decade throughout the West Bolton SNAP neighbourhood. The night of celebration will include an open house with interactive poster boards showcasing completed key programs and initiatives, a short presentation highlighting key accomplishments, and a free guided walking tour of the newly completed Hidden Creek Walk. The event will be held at Humber River Centre from 4 – 6 p.m., and registration is required.
