Caledon East area resident Sarah Power was all decked out in the colours of the flag to meet Monty, a bald python that was brought by Blair Watson of Reptilia. The community was out in various places around Caledon Monday to mark Canada Day and the country's 146th birthday. The Caledon Agricultural Society hosted the annual Canada Day Strawberry Festival, with various dignitaries on hand for the opening ceremonies.Photos by Bill Rea Kennedy Road Tabernacle hosted the community at a large Canada Day celebration at the Brampton Christian School on Highway 10, near Valleywood. Lots of people were taking rides on this train around the grounds. There are always lots of kids for the strawberry eating contest at the Fairgrounds, and they sometimes end up with dirty faces at the end, like Joséphine Sumner, 3, of Belfountain and Niko Venalainen of Toronto. Dean Giancolo, children's pastor at Kennedy Road Tabernacle, was holding the attention of young and old. Downey's Farm hosted their annual Strawberry Festival Monday. The festivities started with a pancake breakfast. Councillors Allan Thompson and Gord McClure were serving Belfountain resident Alaina Wallace. Angie Saylors was serving up the strawberries at the pancake breakfast at the Caledon Fairgrounds. The festivities at Downey's included the cutting of this ceremonial cake. Doing the honours were mascot Dudley Downey, Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones, Councillor Gord McClure, Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson, and John and Ruth Downey. There were some fancy cars at the Fairgrounds, including this replica of the Batmobile, driven by Glen McCullagh of Orangeville. He's seen here with Colin Boardman, 4 of Alton. Megan Vaccaro, 7, of Brampton, and Alison Schmidt, 3, of Orangeville, tied for the best Canada Day costumes at the Caledon Fairgrounds.
