Local artists looking to showcase their work may want to check out an initiative from the Town of Caledon.

On August 12, the Town of Caledon announced it had launched an intake for its fall “Art in the Halls” program. The program was created to give Caledon artists the opportunity to showcase their art throughout Caledon in Town of Caledon facilities like community and recreation centres.

The theme for the fall intake of art is “Fall in Love with Caledon” and artists may apply to have their work showcased until August 30.

Successful applicants will have their art placed on display from September 16 to January 2, 2025.

In a media release, Caledon's CAO Nathan Hyde said public art can significantly enhance the vitality of the Caledon community.

“By showcasing local talent and fostering creative expression, this initiative brings people together, sparks conversations and reinforces our shared sense of place and identity,” said Hyde.

Successful Art in the Halls applicants will also be featured on the Town of Caledon's art website, caledon.ca/art. This site is also where artists can go to find more information about the Art in the Halls project and apply to be a part of it.

There is no charge to apply to be a part of Art in the Halls, and artists may offer their work for sale through the project.

The Town of Caledon has been running Art in the Halls this summer. From now until August 30, the following artists have work on display at Caledon Town Hall: Mary Gore, Patty Maher, Julia Mishanina, Tamara McClintock, and MaryLou Hurley.

There's also art from Humberview Secondary School Students Sejal Takhar, Taylor Williams, Selena Chamberlain, Eva-Rose Sottile, Evleen Kainthrai, Maryam Sch, Marco Macchione, Iain Truong, Scarlett Ribas, Diya Persaud, Jasmine Gabi, Rose Minard, Natasha Fale, and Delaney Turley on display at Town Hall.

Until August 30 at the Humber River Centre, art from Dania Piotti and Miles Cohen is on display; and at the Caledon East Community Complex artist Daniel Mustaph's work is being shown.
