Caledon Area Families for Inclusion planning more social eventsGroup held barbeque on July 14 By ZACHARY ROMAN Local Journalism Initiative Reporter A local group is working to make Caledon a more inclusive place. On July 14, Caledon Area Families for Inclusion (CAFFI) held a barbeque party at Albion Hills Conservation Park. The event featured games, food, music, and swimming, and was a great chance for families to get to know each other. CAFFI is a group that advocates for children and adults with disabilities in Caledon. Mike Brunetto, a coordinator with CAFFI, said the barbeque event was just the beginning and that CAFFI will continue to host more social events to bring people together. He said discussions for bowling and movie events are in the works, for example. Brunetto said CAFFI is hoping to meet with members of Caledon Council and Town of Caledon staff soon to discuss programming for those with mobility challenges and those ages 18 and older. “There's programs for those with special needs who are higher-functioning which is great but to be truly inclusive we need to capture the whole demographic,” said Brunetto. Brunetto said he knows there's more families in Caledon who could come out to events and that CAFFI is always looking for feedback on what types of events they can run to get people to come out. “There's some exciting stuff on the way… we'll keep putting our best foot forward and supporting families,” said Brunetto. |
