Caledon Agricultural Society receives Trillium grantBy Bill Rea The Caledon Agricultural Society (CAS) is the recipient of a grant of $62,600 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The presentation was made Friday at the Caledon Fairgrounds. Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones was on hand with Sheila Tutty of the OTF Halton/Peel Grant Review Team, for a special plaque presentation. The funds will be used to carry out facility improvements to the fairgrounds, which has been serving the community since 1860. CAS Vice-President Tim Forster said the planned improvements include new bleachers and building up of the electrical system on the property. He said the idea is to attract more events to the facility. “We'll be able to broaden our scope in what we're able to offer,” he observed. The Fairgrounds currently host three major public events per year: SnowFest Family Day, Caledon Fair in June and the Canada Day Strawberry Festival. “It is great to see the Caledon Agricultural Society receive money that will benefit our community,” Jones commented. “Through the CAS, many events are held annually that promote and support our strong agricultural community and this grant will update and benefit the heart of our town.” She also stressed CAS is a volunteer-based organization “That's what makes our community special,” she said. |
