C3 launches overnight camp experience for local children

This weekend, C3 (Canadian Cross Training Club) will debut its first overnight event, taking place at their James Dick Quarry Lake location at 18075 Hurontario Street near Caledon Village.

C3 will host underprivileged children for a night under the stars and an outdoor camping experience, with a sunrise wake-up.

The event will run for 24 hours, from noon on Aug. 8 until noon on Aug. 9, when parents and guardians will come and pick up their campers.

This partnership comes after former Olympic Rowing Coach Barry Shepley decided to begin his own training area and work closely with James Dick, who owns a gravel company, to fill in the quarry areas that are being used and turn them into a training area.

Harry Skiddaw Crease, also known as Skid, is the main organizer for this event and is looking forward to giving children their first camping experience.

After working in Outdoor Education for over 40 years, Skid has partnered with C3 owner Shepley to host this exciting new event.

Campers will be able to participate in a wide variety of activities, including swimming, fire building and many more activities.

This is the debut of the overnight program, and organizers hope it will be the first of many offered throughout the summer.

The main goal of this event is to test if it is possible for campers to stay at this location and what it would be like to make this a continued program.

Giving these children the opportunity to do things that they have never done before and get them out of their comfort zone is also something that Skid is hopeful to be able to achieve.

Staying in tents, making s'mores, looking at the stars and spending time telling stories will also be included in these fun-filled weekends for all.
