Bruce Trail Club to host annual general meeting this weekend

Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club will host the Bruce Trail Conservancy 2015 Annual General Meeting Sept. 18, 19 and 20 at the Caledon Community Complex in Caledon East.
The AGM is a chance for members to meet and hear from the executive director and the board of the Bruce Trail Conservancy about the successes that have been achieved over the past year and the challenges still ahead. Hikers from Niagara to Tobermory will be gathering in Caledon East to celebrate the rewards of their efforts in volunteering, fundraising, hiking programs and trail maintenance.
The guest speaker at the Friday (Sept. 18) evening welcome wine and cheese social will be Gary Nielsen, climate change project coordinator for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests. His talk will shed light on the future of the tree canopy in southern Ontario.
After the formal AGM Saturday morning, members will participate in their selection of workshops in the community. These include history and environmental hikes, as well as tours of local art galleries, studios, theatres, farms and nurseries.
The group appreciates the generosity of sponsors and local businesses in Caledon and surrounding area in donating items and gift certificates for the silent auction. The auction will end after dinner Saturday evening and the amount generated from this event will go toward the mandate of securing the trail for future generations.
The AGM will continue Sunday with a selection of hikes starting in Hockley Valley, and ending with the presentation of several awards in the Nature Reserve parking lot at 1:30 p.m.
