Brooks Athletes of the Week — March 3, 2016
Mayfield Secondary School Danielle Grabowski This Grade 11 student played centre on the school's senior girls' volleyball team, which made it to the finals of ROPSSAA. She also played guard on the senior girls' basketball team in the fall and is planning to play on the school's soccer team in the spring. Away from school, she plays volleyball at Pakmen in Mississauga, as well as house league soccer in Caledon East. The 16-year-old lives in Caledon village.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Duane Henry This 15-year-old plays centre on the junior boys' basketball team at school. In the fall, he was a defensive end on the varsity football team that made it to the semifinals. He said he also used to play soccer when he was in elementary school. The Grade 10 student lives in Shelburne.
St. Michael Catholic School Daniel Falcone This Grade 12 student is the skip for the senior boys' curling team at school, and he said they have won two games. This is his fourth year curling. “Its a different kind of sport,” he explained, adding it's strategic. He also played house league soccer last summer in the Bolton Wanderers' organization. The 17-year-old lives in Bolton.
Humberview Secondary School Nicole French This 17-year-old has been showing her prowess on the wrestling mat, having won at ROPSSAA in the 77-kilo class, and she's getting ready for OFSAA in Windsor. She's looking forward to playing rugby in the spring and played on the flag football team in the fall. She plays hockey in the community, playing centre on the Caledon Coyotes midget BB rep team. The Grade 11 student lives in Albion.
