Brooks Athletes of the Week — June 9, 2016
Mayfield Secondary School Taylor Wright This 17-year-old is a softball player who's going places. She played outfield for the school's varsity team that made it to the semifinals, and she plays for the Celtic Softball Club in Milton. And she will be heading to West Virginia next year on a softball scholarship at West Liberty University. She's been paying softball 11 years. “I just love it,” she said. The Grade 12 student lives in Brampton.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Lukas Barlas This Grade 12 student showed his prowess over the last several weeks playing first base for the school's varsity baseball team, even if the season wasn't very successful. Things went a little better in the fall, when he played on the offensive line for the senior football team. They made it to the semifinals. The 18-year-old lives in Orangeville.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Hannah Rybka This 18-year-old has been making her contribution to the school's varsity ultimate Frisbee team, which ranked third at OFSAA. She also played mid-field for the varsity lacrosse team, which compiled a 6-6 record over the season, as well as wide receiver and defence on the varsity flag football squad. Away from school, she plays field lacrosse in the Excelsiors' organization. The Grade 12 student lives in Bolton.
Humberview Secondary School Dawson Rowntree The Grade 12 student has been contributing to the school's ultimate Frisbee team, which put together an 8-1 record. In the fall, he was active in cross-country running. Away from school, he spends his time running and mountain biking. The 17-year-old lives in Bolton.
