Brewers still to lead North Dufferin League

By Brian Lockhart
After 19 games this season, the Bolton Brewers remain at the top of the standings in the North Dufferin Baseball League's Senior division — but not by much.
The Ivy Leafs are hot on the Brewers' trail with both teams taking only three losses for the season so far.
The Brewers are ahead on points, 32 in the column so far, but they have played 19 games — that's two more than the Leafs.
Starting the season with a hectic schedule, the Brewers have played five double headers already, including back-to-back full days of ball May 10 and 11, against Orangeville and the Bolton Dodgers.
Considering their heavy schedule and the fact that they also play in the Toronto Baseball League, the Brewers have not let up on the gas at all.
Their last couple of outings include back-to-back wins over the Midland Indians June 7 and an 8-3 win over Ivy June 11.
Their June 17, game against the Mansfield Cubs was postponed due to weather and will be rescheduled for a later date.
In third place, the Aurora Jays have suffered only one loss this season with 13 games behind them. That includes 11 wins and one tie.
Following them, the New Lowell Knights are in fourth place with a 9-4-2 record and the Barrie Angels coming in at the number five spot with a 7-3-4 record.
The other Bolton team, the Dodgers, continue to struggle, winning four games this season while giving up 10 losses and playing two games to a tie.
The regular NDBL season is around two-thirds of the way through the schedule, which will go to the end of July before starting the playoffs.
That's enough time for some teams to turn it around and move up through the standings if they can pull off a nice finish. Although a couple of the teams at the bottom including Orangeville, Angus, and Creemore, are unlikely to make up enough games to find a berth in the playoffs this season.
The Brewers will be on the road for a couple of games in Creemore and Ivy before returning to North Hill Park in Bolton.
Their next home game is scheduled for July 17.
Game time is 8:30 p.m.
