Brewers clinch first place, ending regular season with 46 points

By Brian Lockhart
No one can catch them now.
The Bolton Brewers have ended the North Dufferin Baseball League regular season with a first-place finish.
Even if the second place Orillia Majors win their last at-bat, they will still be five points behind the Brewers.
The Bolton team played their final game last Thursday (July 25) at North Hill Park in Bolton and left with a 1-0 win over the Aurora Jays in a fast seven innings that took only one hour and 10 minutes to finish.
After 26 games, the Bolton squad came out on the plus side 23 times, losing only three games for the season. Over all, they scored 170 runs and allowed 64 against.
Orillia finished in second place, followed by the Creemore Braves and the New Lowell Knights in fourth.
The Brewers had some solid hitters this season, lead by Shawn Chalmers and Mike Wallace, who both posted .407 batting averages for the season. Mike Blackwood ended with .400, followed by Pat Warden who managed .381 for the season.
On top of their ability to get on base and follow up, the Brewers displayed a high level of defensive skill which frustrated opponents all season long.
The line up for the playoffs has not yet been announced, as there are still a couple of regular season games on the schedule.
The top eight teams make the playoffs in the NDBL senior division.
Unfortunately, the Bolton Dodgers are a couple of points short and won't make a playoff berth.
The Brewers are the defending champions from the 2012 season and are once again the favourite going into the playoffs.
Round one of the playoffs is slated to begin Aug. 6, and run through to Aug. 16.
Series and game dates and times will be in the Citizen as soon as they are made available.
