The Bolton Kin Club has recently established a bursary for long-time Kin member Leslie Caldwell, who passed two years ago.

The bursary is named the “Kin Leslie Caldwell Bursary.”

It will be awarded annually to one graduating student for their “outstanding volunteerism and school academics.”

Caldwell was a member of the Kin Club of Bolton for more than 20 years and dedicated much of her time to her community.

“She was not only a nice person,” says nember of Bolton Kin John Stegeman, “but also she was a volunteer supreme. She was involved in every project.”

Stegeman says Caldwell would always “light up a room” and was loved by everyone.

He shares that the bursary has been in the works for a few years and has now come to fruition.

With this bursary, instead of placing the focus solely on the applicant’s financial situation, the Kin Club of Bolton also wants to know what these students do to make their community a better place, as Caldwell did.

Stegeman says that within the first 24 hours of the bursary application, they already had two applications and hope to get many more.

He will be going in person to the surrounding high schools in Caledon to discuss the bursary and provide information.

The bursary, in the amount of $1,000, will be awarded annually going forward to a Town of Caledon high school graduating fourth-year student who resides in Caledon.

These schools include Humberview Secondary School, St. Michael’s Catholic Secondary School, Mayfield Secondary School, and Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School.
