Bolton Dodgers dedicate 8-5 win to their late manager

By Jeff Doner
After being rained out last Thursday in Angus, the Bolton Dodgers senior men's baseball team returned home to North Hill Park Sunday for a tilt with the Nobleton Cornhuskers.
It was an emotional one for the Dodgers, as it was their first game back since their manager Tony Gemmiti passed away.
The team released a statement after the game:
“The Bolton Dodgers got the win in honour of their late manager, Tony Gemmiti. Tony managed the team and core group of players for over 10 years. He always managed the game with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. On the first game since the funeral ceremony, the Dodgers offense was fuelled by Tony's son, Michael, who went three-for-four with a home run. It was an emotional game for Michael, but he couldn't have honoured his father in a better way. Tony would be proud of his son's strength and determination. The team is honouring a great man by donning a patch on their right sleeve with ‘T.G. #42” on it, which is Tony's initials and jersey number.”
The game started with a run by Nobleton in the top of the first, but the Dodgers were unwilling to let the game slip away, tying things up in the bottom of the inning when Gemmiti brought in a run on a double. Gemmiti later scored on a hit by Marlon Young to take a 2–1 lead.
From then on, the teams traded runs back and forth, until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Dodgers offence broke through.
With the score tied 5–5, Bolton loaded the bases with two out. Tyson Hanson hit a triple to score three runs and give the Dodgers a 8–5 lead.
That score stood and the Dodgers kept their post-season chances alive with the win. The Dodgers currently sit three points out of a playoff berth, with just six games left.
“It was a solid game overall, but we've got to win four or five of the next seven to get into the playoffs,” Gemitti said postgame. “We've got to get that done and the schedule is in our favour, so I think it's definitely do-able.”
Bolton Brewers
The Brewers earned another victory last week, this time downing the Creemore Braves 3–2 on the road to help them keep their grip on first place in the North Dufferin Baseball League standings.
Andrew White threw a solid complete game for the Brewers, allowing two runs on four hits, with eight strikeouts.
The Braves got to him early to take a 2–0 lead in the first inning, but eventually the Brewers offered their pitcher some run support in the third, when Brett Barwick hit a two-run single to tie things up.
The game stayed tied 2-2 until the top of the seventh inning, when the Brewers scored a lone run to take a 3–2 lead.
White shut things down in the bottom of the frame to help his team solidify the 3–2 win.
“We're feeling pretty good at this point,” said manager Mike Wallace. “It's that time of year again where we start get ready for playoffs, so any time we're able to come out with a win like we did against Creemore, we'll take one.”
The Brewers currently own a 17–3 record with 34 points, just ahead of the second place Ivy Leafs with 32 points.
They will look to extend their lead over Ivy this week when they visit them tomorrow (Friday) night.
