Beyond the Frame: Opening reception for new art show happening this weekend

Reception will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on August 10

A local art group is launching its next show. 

From 1 to 3 p.m. on August 10, Headwaters Arts will host an opening reception for its fifth members' show of 2024: Beyond the Frame. 

The exhibition, which is on display at the Alton Mill Arts Centre, features more than 65 pieces of art from 26 different artists and began showing on August 7. 

Katarina Wramhed-Persson is an artist who resides in Erin but grew up surrounded by the sea in Sweden. She's featured in Beyond the Frame, and said she likes to paint intuitively.

“I start with a loose structure to build a framework, then employ mark-making, layers of texture and glazes to build history and interest. As the composition unfolds, it will eventually lead to more purposeful marks and strokes as the finished painting emerges”, said Wramhed-Persson. “Inspiration to me can be the exploration and relationships of colour palettes together with the memories of different landscapes. I want to inspire others to see things in a new way.”

Pamela Day , another artist featured in the show, is a landscape artist from Markham who's inspired by the beauty and movement of colour in the landscapes of Canada. Day said she loves turning the not-so-ordinary into something that's extraordinary, illuminating and awe-inspiring.

Mrityunjay Awasthy is an artist from Mississauga who typically paints with acrylic paint on a canvas. For Beyond the Frame however, Awasthy is showcasing new artwork created with wood, metal and resin. 

“Working with my wrist and eye was a mesmerizing experience,” said Awasthy. “These small works carry aesthetic elegance of objects retired from their traditional roles.”

Headwaters Arts marketing lead Sue Powell said she's very excited about this exhibition as the works on display showcase what happens when artists push their boundaries and tell the world what's important to them.

“The walls are filled with a variety of bold, edgy, soft and subtle art works by twenty-six ultra-imaginative and creative artists,” said Powell.
