Beware of dangers from warmer weather

Warm weather has returned, and the Central Region of OPP is asking motorists to be careful and watchful for cyclists, pedestrians of all ages and motorcycles.
Over the past few days, police have observed a marked increase in those who use roadways and highways, and they are sad to report they have seen a number of serious collisions already that have involved motorcycles, including one that ended in a fatality early Saturday morning.
Outdoor enthusiasts who use the waterways are also reminded that the water is not only very cold, but may be moving faster due to the recent floods that covered a large portion of the area. Waterways of any size must be respected and safety equipment, including personal flotation devices (PFDs) and flotation suits, etc. is required. Boaters should also be conscious of submerged hazards, which could include docks and other cottage property that may have simply floated away in the wake of the recent floods.
OPP ask everyone to take their time over the next few days and weeks, and remember that operating any motorized vehicle, vessel or bicycle requires a level of skill that for some may require some time to become reacquainted with.
