When he declared his plans to seek re-election in June, Doug Beffort said “I enjoy the job.”
He's got four more years of enjoyment to look forward to, because he easily won re-election last Monday to his Ward 1 seat on Caledon council.
Official figures released by the this week indicate Beffort took 2,018 votes, giving him 70.49 per cent of the total cast. Challenger Paul Revell had 845.
“I did it because I've got some great residents who seem confident in me, and I really appreciate it,” Beffort commented a couple of days after the election. He added he had a great time during the campaign. He was able to meet a lot of people and hear a lot about their issues.
Beffort said the numbers from the election were pretty much what he had been expecting.
Addressing the fact there will be four new faces on council, “it's hard to judge at this point. He did observe there are younger people on council, and they should put forth new views and ideas.
“I'm looking forward to it very much,” he said.
“I was hoping it would be a bit closer than that,” Revell commented as he took in the election night results in the council chamber at Town Hall in Caledon East.
“Doug has a lot of support,” he added. “He's a good politician.”
Revell did say he might consider another bid for the seat in the future.
Beffort was ahead at every poll in the ward, including the advance poll at Caledon Central Public School.
Revell's best showing was at the poll at Alton Library, where he took 236 of the 700 votes cast, good for 33.71 per cent.
