After a six-year building campaign, the Bethell Hospice residence opened in Inglewood in April 2010, providing palliative care to those in the final stages of life, at no cost to residents or their families.  But the opening of the residence was only the first challenge.  Unlike some other aspects of the health care system, government funding covers only a portion of the ongoing operational cost of hospices.   At Bethell Hospice, government funding covers only the direct care medical staffing costs.  The rest – about $1,000,000 each year – must be raised through fundraising to keep the doors of Bethell Hospice open. Bethell Hospice serves all of Caledon, Brampton and Dufferin County.  At the final stages of life, Bethell Hospice offers a tranquil and comfortable place for families and friends to spend time with their loved ones, with around-the-clock care provided by professional medical staff at no cost to the families.  As the baby-boomer population ages, demand for this type of compassionate palliative care will only increase, and fundraising for Bethell Hospice will become even more vital. Fundraising takes many forms at Bethell Hospice.  Community events are an extremely important aspect of raising the necessary funds each year.  On November 17th, the 5th annual Bethell Hospice Christmas Bazaar was held at the Caledon Country Club.  Everyone loves a great Christmas Bazaar filled with unique handmade items, homemade baking and jams, art and collectibles.  But shoppers at the Bethell Hospice Bazaar could also feel great about supporting a local charity with their purchases.  Every item at the bazaar is donated, so every dollar raised goes directly to support the programs and services of Bethell Hospice.  In addition, the event was supported by Philip Adsetts – Kinetico Water Systems Bolton, as well as a host of other sponsors.  Scotiabank also acted as Gift Matching Partner, matching the first $3000 of bazaar sales with a donation to Bethell Hospice Foundation. The next fundraiser this holiday season is the Celebration of Light & Love Tree Lighting, bringing together people from across the community who believe in the importance of Bethell Hospice.  With each donation, a light is illuminated on the Bethell Hospice trees.  Lights may be purchased either in memory of former Bethell Hospice residents, or by any member of the community who wants to remember a loved one.  Last year, over $160,000 was raised, and over 360 individuals were remembered with their names read aloud at the Tree Lighting.  This year's Tree Lighting will take place at Bethell Hospice on December 13, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Light & Love donations may be made online at foundation.bethellhospice.org, or by calling the Fundraising Office at 905-838-3534. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2018-11-22 11:00:04 Post date GMT: 2018-11-22 16:00:04 Post modified date: 2018-11-29 11:02:41 Post modified date GMT: 2018-11-29 16:02:41 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
