Baseball school coming to BoltonBy Brian Lockhart After taking a dip in the number of players province wide in the 1990s, baseball is undergoing a resurgence with a renewed interest in the sport. Many leagues are expanding, with more players choosing the game on the diamond as their summer sport of choice. As with any competitive activity, more players means more opportunity to advance to higher level and vie for a spot on a travelling rep team. Making the cut relies on skill and knowledge, so any edge a player may have can make the difference when try-outs get underway in the spring. Local baseball coach John Miceli is working with the Doyle Baseball Academy, a Florida-based baseball school, to bring professional instruction to Bolton. Miceli is currently a coach with the Bolton minor bantam rep team. “The way the game is growing in Canada, they (Doyle) wanted me to start something here,” Miceli explained. As a Bolton resident, he said it “makes sense to start locally.” Blake Doyle, founder of the Baseball Academy, is currently a minor league development coach with the Rockies. He will be bringing his years of major league experience to Bolton for a four day session running from July 2 to 5. The sessions will be taking place at North Hill Park in Bolton for four full days and one half day of instruction.
