Bandits fall to Bulldogs, beat Mountaineers on the road

By Jake Courtepatte
With just one week to go in the OJCLL regular season schedule, the Caledon Bandits Jr. C lacrosse club defeated the Mimico Mountaineers for the second time this year.
They entered the week hosting the Halton Hills Bulldogs last Tuesday at Mayfield Arena, with Ryan Woodworth between the pipes searching for his first win of the season. He gained his composure in net after allowing two early goals, making a number of key saves in the first while high-scoring forward Jordan Oshowy netted the Bandits' first of the game.
Austin Heughan, certainly no stranger to the scoresheet, had a goal and an assist in the latter half of the second period to keep the game at a tight 5-4 score heading to the final frame.
But the wind was blown from their sails when early in the third, a four-minute man advantage resulted only in a shorthanded goal for the Bulldogs. The Bandits took three consecutive penalties to finish out the game, while Keaton Wilson was the only Caledon player to notch a goal in the third in an eventual 8-5 loss.
It was a Friday game in Mimico that gave the Caledon team a chance to add some points to their standings, with the Bandits' only win so far this season coming at the expense of the winless Mountaineers.
Chris Dimartino potted his fourth goal of the year just over a minute into play, quickly countered by the Mountaineers in the third minute. Goals from Brad Wilson and Josh MacIsaac gave the Bandits a 3-1 lead at the break.
After an early Mimico powerplay goal in the second, goaltender Brandon Covre played a sensational game, giving his team the momentum to find the back of the net three times in the period. He shut out the home side in the third, and two more goals from Hueghan and Spencer Wood gave the Bandits a commanding 8-3 win.
The star of the game was perhaps forward Brett Fraser, whose one goal and two assists brought him to a total of 11 points in as many games this season.
The Bandits wrap up the regular season schedule against the Fergus Thistles this week.
