Annual Headwaters Arts Festival opens with Friday GalaBy Bill Rea Alton Mill was a very busy place Friday night, as it was the scene of the Opening Gala of the Headwaters Arts Festival. The Festival will run until Oct. 10, and will include a variety of shows, displays and other events, aimed at promoting the artistic scene of the area. The Gala was also a fundraising event, with Scotiabank, as sponsor, matching the amount collected. “This is the start of a great event,” Mayor Allan Thompson commented, as he congratulated organizers on a great show. “We want to keep this going and we want to keep our artistic economy going.” Thompson also commented that the event goes to show Caledon and the Headwaters area is very rich in talent. “We'll do our utmost to create an environment you can thrive in,” he said. Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones said she was impressed, both by the calibre of artists with their works on display and the way their efforts are promoted, but also with the way the community gets behind it all. “The next three weeks are going to be successful,” she declared.
