Annual Bolton Fair is here this weekendBy Bill Rea This coming weekend promises to be filled with information and fun in Bolton. The Albion and Bolton Agricultural Society will be putting on the 157th edition of the Bolton Fall Fair. With the theme being Celebrating 100 years of 4-H, the Fair will open tonight (Thursday) and run until Sunday afternoon. There will be all sorts of attractions and activities to keep everyone occupied and enthused. And the weather is expected to cooperate all weekend. “We're not hoping,” Fair Secretary Marg Jones declared. “We're getting good weather.” There are a couple of new attractions Jones mentioned, including Farm Olympics, and a Spaghetti Eating Contest Saturday at 5 p.m. “You just come, sit at the table and gobble down spaghetti,” she explained. Also returning this year is Cow Plop Bingo Saturday and Sunday, and Jones said there will also be Chicken Plop Bingo in the arena. Tonight will see the midway open with Toonie Night. Tomorrow (Friday) will see the placing and judging of exhibits, with the opening ceremonies slated to start at 6:30 p.m. on the track. There will also be a bike rally, as well as the crowning of the junior and senior Fair Ambassadors. That will be followed by the always-popular Demolition Derby, which will go rain or shine starting at 7:30 p.m. A very full day is in the works for Saturday. The Flower Show will be opening at 10 a.m., and that's also when the Dairy Show and the Baby Show are to start. The Bike Rodeo gets under way at 11 a.m. Other attractions will be the Poultry Show starting at noon, the Caledon Cruisers Car Show, which will run from noon to 5 p.m., the Sheep Show starting at 1 p.m., Pet Show on the Main Stage at 2, the Kiddie Pedal Pull, which will begin at 3, and the Farmers Olympics starting at 4. The morning will also include Chip off the Old Block, a look-alike contest slated to start at 10 a.m. The evening will feature a truck pull, starting at 7:30 p.m. Sunday morning will open with the annual Pancake Breakfast at 8 a.m., and there will be a community church service on the main stage, starting at 9:30. The Garden Tractor Pull is slated to start at 10 a.m., and other attractions on the agenda for the day include the Goat Show at 11 a.m., the annual Milking Competition on the main stage at noon and the Beef Show at 1 p.m. There will also be Tug of War on the track, starting at 1 p.m. Weekend passes are available for the whole Fair, selling for $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger. There's also a family pass available Saturday for $25. |
