Amazing turnout for Caledon Canada Day and Strawberry FestivalCaledon Fairgrounds packed with people celebrating Canada Day on July 1 By ZACHARY ROMAN Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Caledon residents came out in droves to celebrate Canada Day this year. On July 1, the Caledon Agricultural Society hosted its annual Caledon Canada Day and Strawberry Festival at the Caledon Fairgrounds. The event was very well-attended and there was lots for people to do. The classic strawberry pancake breakfast was a hit, and there were many other food options. There was a militia re-enactment, a car show, live music, pony rides, a vendor's market and much more. The event was made possible thanks to the hard work of many volunteers, and it was something all the dignitaries attending the event noted. Dufferin-Caledon MP Kyle Seeback said Canada is the best country in the world. “We are so blessed to have been either born here, or have come here through a whole bunch of different ways,” said Seeback. “My new wife is here. She came to Canada as a refugee and loves this country like you can't believe, and that is the miracle of Canada. No matter where you come from or how you got here, we love this country.” Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones said she loved seeing so many families out enjoying the day together. “This event is organized by volunteers who give up their Canada Day so that you can have a fabulous Canada Day,” said Jones. Regional Councillor for Wards 1, 2 and 3 Christina Early said it was wonderful to see how many people came out to celebrate Canada Day this year. “It's like we've never seen before… It's such a tradition,” said Early. “When we walked in and saw the lineup for those pancakes, it was just music to everyone's ears.” Ward 1 Councillor Lynn Kiernan said it was a joy to see so many people at the Caledon Fairgrounds. “This is a dream come true for the volunteers who put this on… this is outstanding,” said Kiernan. “This is a big day for our volunteers.” Ed Taccone, President of the Caledon Fair Board, wished everyone a happy Canada Day. “As we gather with friends and family to celebrate Canada Day, let's honour the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded this land for generations and the cultural contributions of all the diverse communities that call Canada home,” said Taccone. “Let's come together to celebrate our shared values of equality, diversity, and inclusivity.” |
