Allan Thompson will run for mayor

By Bill Rea
It's going to be a couple of weeks before he officially gets things launch, but Caledon Councillor Allan Thompson announced last week he plans to run for mayor in this fall's municipal elections.
Thompson, a life-long resident of Terra Cotta, was first elected to council as area rep for Ward 2 in 2003. He moved up to the Regional seat in the 2006 and has served two terms there.
“I think it's a good opportunity,” he said. “There are a lot of challenges coming forward.”
Thompson said those challenges include upcoming reviews of both the Provincial Greenbelt Plan, as well as the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan. He said he wants to make sure Caledon is properly taken care of in those processes.
Thompson, 53, is a farmer. He and his wife Anne Howden Thompson have a son and daughter.
When it comes to his chances of election, Thompson replied “That's the public's choice.”
“I see Caledon's got a lot of huge opportunities coming its way,” he commented, adding he thinks he's well positioned to make sure conditions in Town remain in good shape.
