Ken Robinson, representing the Provincial level of the Air Cadet League of Canada, was taking part in the Passing the Port with Mayor Allan Thompson in preparation of the toasts. According to custom, the bottle was not to touch the table until it was either empty or all at the table had been served. Also, since the cadets were involved, the bottle was symbolic, and did not contain alcohol.
Members of the squadrons pipes and drums marched into the hall at the start of the formal part of the evening.
The squadron's Brass and Reeds performed after dinner. The musicians were Amina Hashim, Luke Martins, Lawrence Bork, Filomena Silva Martins and Tapas Modi.
