Agents of Change work to improve Peel through Day of Caring

More than 180 Agents of Change from organizations across Peel spent the day making a difference recently during United Way of Peel Region's Fall Day of Caring, sponsored by Depend.
United Way mobilizes volunteers across the region to support work to reduce and prevent poverty, and support those in crisis right now. This event was held at 26 locations throughout Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga. Volunteers witnessed the impact of United Way dollars at work supporting individuals and families in their time of need. Projects for Day of Caring included packing of more than 500 “welcome kits” for clients accessing local shelters. These kits included, among other items, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap and deodorant. Other projects included mentoring newcomers by providing employment guidance and advice; and participating in a guided hike with clients experiencing mobility challenges at the March of Dimes.
“United Way brings together people from all walks of life to Give – Volunteer – Act,” United Way Peel Region President and CEO Shelley White said. “Last year, we mobilized over 3,200 volunteers. At our campaign Kick-Off, we collected and distributed over 3,000 pounds of food across Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Today, employees from our partner workplaces volunteered at 26 front line organizations serving those most vulnerable.”
“I'm moved and inspired by the groundswell of support,” she added. “Together we will eliminate poverty in Peel. Together, we are possibility!”
