Acting Caledon CAO Carey Herd handed top municipal position on permanent basis

Written By ALYSSA PARKHILL

After serving in the position in an interim role since September 2019, Carey Herd has been appointed as Caledon's permanent Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Following months of interviews and deliberation, the Town's CAO recruitment and performance evaluation committee came to the decision to permanently promote Ms. Herd to fill the void left behind when former CAO Mike Galloway resigned suddenly last fall.

Ms. Herd has been with the Town of Caledon since May 2013, previously serving as Town Clerk and General Manager of Corporate Services.

The process for hiring a new CAO was kickstarted on Nov. 19, and concluded yesterday (March 3) with the announcement of Ms. Herd's permanent hiring.

The committee set up to find the municipality's new CAO unanimously voted on Herd's behalf to make her interim position, permanent. It is hoped the decision will bring stability to the CAO's office for years to come.

“Carey brings energy and an innovative, collaborative style to the role of CAO,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “She presents a citizen-centered vision for the future and Council is looking forward to working with her in realizing the tremendous potential of our community of communities.”

Herd has been a municipal expert over 22 years. She is a member of several associations within the industry such as, Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) and the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA).

She previously worked as the General Manager of Corporate Services and Town Clerk, and is excited and grateful for her new position.

“I would like to thank Council for their confidence and entrusting me with leading our team in Caledon,” said Herd. “I am looking forward to working together with Council, staff and residents in shaping the future of the municipality.”
