21 new volunteer firefighters join Caledon Fire and Emergency Services’ ranksBy ZACHARY ROMAN Local Journalism Initiative Reporter There are new firefighters in Caledon ready to answer the call and serve the community. On July 26, the Town of Caledon held a graduation ceremony for 21 volunteer firefighters who completed their training and are now officially part of Caledon Fire and Emergency Services. The ceremony was held at the Albion Bolton Community Centre. Mayor Annette Groves said she was proud to welcome the new firefighters to the Town of Caledon's Fire and Emergency Services team. “I know that all Caledon residents are grateful for their dedication to serving our community and keeping us safe,” said Groves. The 21 new volunteer firefighters had to undergo an extensive training program in order to graduate — they each completed 393 hours of coursework and obtained numerous certifications. Caledon's Fire Chief, Dave Pelayo, said it was an honour to celebrate the graduation of Caledon's new volunteer firefighter recruits. “These dedicated individuals have completed rigorous training and demonstrated exceptional courage and commitment,” said Pelayo. “Their addition to our team enhances our ability to protect and serve Caledon residents. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing their positive impact as they join the ranks of our brave firefighters.” A Town of Caledon media release notes the new volunteer firefighters have been assigned to stations across Caledon and will begin work immediately. |
