GARAGE BREAK-INS, VEHICLE THEFTS

 INVESTIGATED

Caledon OPP responded to several calls for service in Caledon Village, where unlocked garages and vehicles were entered by an unknown suspect, and valuables were stolen.

Three unlocked garages of residences located on Kevinwood Drive, Mistywood Drive and Haylevale Road were targeted by the suspect. Investigation revealed that the suspect accessed the garages through an unlocked side door and ransacked the unlocked vehicles inside.

Officers also responded to a theft from vehicle on Kevinwood Drive, where the suspect entered an unlocked car parked in a driveway, and stole cash and bank cards left inside the vehicle.

The following items were reported to be stolen by the suspect: bicycle, tools, wallet, banks cards, identification, boots, cash and sunglasses.

The incidents occurred sometime between 2 a.m. and 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8. The suspect was wearing a camo jacket with a hood.

Caledon OPP is asking the residents of the above neighbourhoods to check their security cameras for suspicious people, vehicles or activity. If you have any information or video surveillance footage in relation to these thefts, please call the Caledon OPP Detachment at (905) 584-2241 or 1-888-310-1122.

You can also provide information anonymously by contacting Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.peelcrimestoppers.ca. When you contact Crime Stoppers you stay anonymous, you never have to testify, and you could receive a cash reward of up to $2,000 upon an arrest.

Caledon OPP reminds local residents to:

Lock your car when you park it - regardless of where your vehicle is parked - inside your garage or in the driveway;

Leave nothing visible inside your car. Not even pocket change or empty bottles.

Don't keep your automatic garage door openers clipped to the visors in your cars - it is another key into your home that thieves won't hesitate to use or keep it for later;

Secure your garage - side doors and home entry door must always be locked! Don't forget about the door that leads from your attached garage into your home. Losing power tools and sporting equipment is bad enough, but once a burglar gets access to the rest of your house, you run even greater risks.

Do not keep the “smart” remote keys to your vehicle near the entrances to your residence. Secure them in a shielded signal blocking box, pouch or container to reduce the threat of thieves using the signal to access or steal your vehicle.
