Every year in the month of September, Tim Hortons holds their Smile Cookie campaign to raise money for local charities.

Over 4,300 Tim Hortons locations nationwide participate in the event including our local Tim Hortons owners here in Caledon.

This year, Tim Hortons has hit an all-time high record of $10.56 million raised through the national Smile Cookie Campaign.

“We were absolutely blown away by the generosity of Canadians for our annual Smile Cookie campaign,” says Tim Hortons Chief Marketing Officer Hope Bagozzi.

Caledon Meals on Wheels was the local charity chosen to support, where a generous $28,349 has been raised and given to the local organization. These large numbers represent a new breaking record for the country, and locally here in Caledon, with the most cookies sold than in any other year.

Last year, the campaign raised $9.8 million across Canada.

The donation will be going to fund Caledon Meals on Wheels services such as hot and frozen meals, groceries, security checks, friendly visits and all wellness programs.

The Smile Cookie Campaign began in 1996 to raise funds for the Hamilton Children’s Hospital. For the past 24 years, Canadians have been spending one dollar on a smile cookie and as Tim Hortons says it, spreading smiles.

Many local businesses stepped up to help with this year’s initiatives, such as Sorrento Retirement Residence. Back in September, owner Raymond Nicolini purchased smile cookies for the entire construction crew who were working on the still under way Sorrento Retirement Residence building, and to support Caledon Meals on Wheels.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Tim Hortons, the Restaurant Owners, their staff teams and our community, especially during these challenging times.  Thank you to our local Tim Hortons restaurants in Bolton, Caledon Village and Mayfield/Airport Road for all their support!” said Caledon Meals on Wheels, Executive Director Christine Sevigny.
