Caledon resident facing 47 charges of sexual assault

A 65-year-old Caledon residents has been charged with almost 50 counts of sexual assault, dating back to incidents that occured almost a decade ago. 

Thomas Hughes was arrested last Thursday, an issued with 47 charges following an extensive investigation by OPP. He has been held for bail hearing since then and is scheduled to appear in court in Orangeville on a later date. 

Police report that the incidents began as early as 2011 and believe there may be more cases. 

The offences that Hughes has been arrested and charged with includes:

• Nine counts of communication with anyone under 18 years of age with purpose of obtaining sexual services

• Five counts, invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age

• Five counts of possession and purpose of publication of child pornography

• Nine counts, procuring under 18 years

• Three counts of sexual assault

• Six counts of sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age

• Four counts of sexual exploitation

• And six counts of sexual interference
