The Albion Bolton Community Library branch was packed with families, students and faculty, to host their annual Art Exhibition this past Tuesday.

Mayfield Visual Art students scattered their art work around the upper level of the library. The Caledon Public Library (CPL) has partnered with the Parents’ Council for over 20 years to bring the annual at exhibition to the library.

“From November through December, the students ranging from grade 9 all the way through grade 12 get to showcase their art, and of course we don’t charge for space,” explains Laurie Groe, Manager of Youth Services. “It really gives students a first taste to have their work out on display. This is such a delightful partnership that we have, and we’re thrilled. We’re excited to have the artwork and our patrons love it.”

From self-portraits, to landscapes and abstract paintings, the Mayfield Visual Art students presented a high level of talent. A wall was covered in self-portraits sketched in pencil, that captured not only the physical look of each students, but it represented their personalities as well.

The Caledon Public Library are big advocates of art work and are thrilled to be able to give aspiring artists the opportunity to share their work. They connect with not only high school art students, but with local artists in the area as well.

“Arts and Culture is very important to us. And we have our Artful Caledon initiative, and we have art in all of our branches. We are thrilled that we get to be the purveyors of this beautiful artwork and we have professional artists that go on display as well,” says Groe.

CPL and Mayfield Secondary School had held an extensive partnership and look forward to working alongside each other each year. They have built not only a partnership, but a friendship.

“We’re grateful to have them. We have Humberview who comes in, and a little exhibit by Ellwood. We reach out to all of the local schools, elementary and high school, but traditionally Mayfield, is a given. We’re always thrilled at this time of year, because we know we have Mayfield here,” says Groe.
