Caledon partners up with Canadian firm to upgrade broadband infrastructure in Bolton

Written By MIKE BAKER

It was announced on Tuesday (Oct. 8) that the Town of Caledon would be investing up to $250,000 to assist with installing over 8 kilometres of fibre optic cable in Bolton.

Outlined as one of the community's top priorities over this term of Council, the announcement that high speed internet lines would be installed in the south Bolton industrial area over the next few months was cause for excitement for Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson.

“Having access to high speed internet is absolutely vital in today's economy,” said Mayor Thompson. “The new fibre in the Bolton Industrial Park will provide Caledon businesses access to the services and technology they need to compete locally, nationally, or internationally.”

He added, “Our Council has never wavered in trying to find solutions to addressing this vital community need. During this term of Council, we are focused on taking even more action to bring broadband to more homes and businesses in Caledon.

Canadian telecommunications firm Vianet has been selected to carry out the installation of the new lines.
