Bolton BarBurrito offering $5 Burritos when you bring in a food drive donation

June 6, 2019   ·   0 Comments

To help fight hunger in Bolton, the BarBurrito on 334 Queen St S will be hosting a food drive on June 12. All donations will benefit The Caledon Exchange and donors can purchase a burrito for only $5.

Although Caledon seems like a high-earning region, The Region of Peel reports that six per cent of Caledon residents are still considered low-income. According to the Caledon Housing Study, 57% of low-income households faced housing affordability issues in 2011. Due to a lack of affordable housing, businesses struggle to find potential employees, especially as Bolton does not yet have a public transit system.

The Caledon Exchange takes a holistic approach to tackle these issues and support the community. While they welcome food donations for their pantry and other non-profit partner organizations, they also offer cooking and exercise classes, counselling, transportation, and various children’ workshops. Those registered with the food pantry can ‘shop’ there like a grocery store with shelves of snacks and fresh fruit available for selection. In 2017, the food pantry was visited over 3200 times according to Caledon Community Services).

“The staff at the Exchange is truly very kind and helpful,” said Erika Huber, They make you feel at home. There is always a cup of coffee brewing or a pot of stew steaming in the kitchen. A very caring place to go to.”

The BarBurrito restaurant in Bolton hopes to uphold the same community-centric feel that The Caledon Exchange provides. After opening its doors three months ago, owners Jagdeep and Amardeep have certainly felt welcomed. “We’re thrilled that Bolton loves our food, yet we know that there are people in the town who are struggling. We hope that we can do a little bit to help.”

Visit BarBurrito on Wed June 12 at 334 Queen St S to donate to the food drive and get a regular classic burrito for only $5. The Caledon Exchange is in high need of cereal.
