Winter enthusiasts raised $96,000 for local hospitals at Ski Day event

Skiers and snowboarders hit the slopes this on Tuesday, March 5. on a fresh and sunny day in support of William Osler Health System Foundation's (Osler Foundation) 11th annual Ski Day.

The event, which drew 180 winter sports enthusiasts and supporters to Caledon Ski Club, raised $96,000 to help purchase equipment and fund redevelopment initiatives at Brampton Civic Hospital and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness.

“Our Ski Day event is always a fun way to enjoy winter, and we're extremely grateful to all those who joined us in support of our hospitals,” said Ken Mayhew, president and CEO of Osler Foundation. “On behalf of Osler Foundation, I want to extend a huge thank-you to the volunteer committee, sponsors and the many participants who made it such a great success.”

The day was full of food and fun, beginning with a delicious breakfast, followed by lunch, ski and snowboard lessons, snowshoeing and an après-ski reception sponsored by Druxy's.

The year's top pledge earner, City Councillor, Doug Whillans, was awarded the Jim Kennedy Top Fundraiser award commemorating the late Jim Kennedy, an avid skier, fundraiser for Osler, dedicated volunteer and co- chair of Ski Day for more than seven years.

“We're proud to support an event that's so highly anticipated each year,” said Darren Steedman, Vice President of title sponsor DG Group. “We always have an amazing time on the slopes and it's incredibly rewarding to know we're making a real difference to health care in the community.”

Ski Day is made possible thanks to the hard work of the organizing committee: Steven Wimmer (Co-Chair), The MBTW Group; Mark Yarranton (Co-Chair), KLM Planning; Councillor Jeff Bowman, City of Brampton; Trevor Hall, DG Group; Mike Harris, The MBTW Group; Tina Larsen, Canadian Metal Cutters; Jennifer Vivian, City of Brampton; Councillor Doug Whillans, City of Brampton.
