Town staff amending by-laws

A number of by-laws will be reviewed and updated by the Town of Caledon “to incorporate modern best practices and address changing needs within the community.”

The Animal Care and Control By-law is one of them. Significant aspects of the proposal are to enhance standards of care for animals, new provisions for protection and care of dogs, oversight of new programs for feral cats, consideration of regulations around livestock types and improved enforcement tools.

Fireworks by-law

The Fireworks by-law is also being reviewed by the Town of Caledon.

Key aspects of it are to recognize Diwali, Chinese New Year and New Year's Eve as observances, added fire safety requirements when discharging consumer fireworks, maintain safe distances from vulnerable and industrial properties, set acceptable times for the discharging of fireworks and enhance enforcement capabilities.

Purchasing by-law

The purchasing by-law is also being reviewed for purchased made by the Town.

Key changes to the current by-law include simpler language, inclusion of trade treaty requirements and addition of new protocols.

If you would like to be notified of the results of the proposed changes, you can make a request to the Town of Caledon's purchasing and risk management division by emailing Amedo Valentino, manager of purchasing and risk management at amedeo.valentino@caledon.ca or calling 905-584-2272 extension 5230.

You can provide your feedback on any of these by-law amendments at an open house on March 26 at 5 p.m. at town hall.
