Retro-fit program launched in Bolton

Written By JOSHUA SANTOS

Residents have the chance to reduce water and energy consumption while saving money on home utilities.

West Bolton SNAP (Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plant) has developed a program with the Town of Caledon in partnership with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and the Region of Peel to offer a home retrofit program, according to a news release.

The program offers complementary 30-minute home consultations during which two West Bolton SNAP staff members discuss with residents upgrades for their home and offer valuable information on existing technologies, programs and rebates.

“West Bolton SNAP provided us with an opportunity to better understand what upgrades would help us save money and have a more efficient home,” said Emilia Malatesta who lives in Deer Valley Drive. “Everyone was very knowledgeable, helpful and informative. We even received a free home energy audit which was great. It has been a very positive experience throughout.”

Program recommendations are based on each homeowners' particular needs, interest and budget.

The Home Retrofit Program has helped over 20 West Bolton neighbours learn about it to reach those goals, the release states.

Each participating household receives an energy saving kit courtesy of Enbridge and LED light bulbs from Hydro One. In addition, TRCA is giving away 10 complementary home energy audits provided by Enbridge for eligible program participants.

All aforementioned partners are working with residents and community organizations to create an action plan that will include projects and programs for neighbourhood transformation.

The action plan is currently being finalized based on feedback from residents and stakeholders in summer 2018.
