June Proctor is hanging up her hat after 26 years with the Caledon Public Library.

She worked as a public service assistant for the Albion-Bolton branch for 26 years. Her last day will be on Dec. 29.

“I loved just being around books. I loved being around the patrons that enjoy the library. I love a lot of the programming that goes on, especially with the children. It’s just a wonderful place to be in, said Proctor.

“It’s just wonderful to see the local residents use the library because it has wonderful resources that are free.”

Proctor is 62. She was born in Brampton and moved to Caledon East in 1987. She said her husband already retired. This will enable her to spend more time with her family.

“A lot of my family lives up north, so this will free me up to see them more and spend time with my family in general,” said Proctor.

Proctor used to work with the Peel Board of Education in the computer department. She used to process report cards and payroll. She left that job when she had children.

“I did have a full-time job and then I had children. Once I had the kids, I wasn’t looking to work full-time at that point because I was raising my family, said Proctor.

“When the kids were young we went to Story Time and I fell in love with the library at that time going through the programs and checking out books for my children. I thought this would be a wonderful place to work at.”

She said she was able to learned a lot from every resource that is available in that environment. She was able to form wonderful friendships with her co-workers in the branch. She did expect to work there for 26 years as she enjoyed her time there.

“This is a wonderful organization where everybody does their best and reaches out to the community. They provide a wonderful service,” said Proctor.

Although she leaves her post, Proctor will continue to visit the library, this time as a customer.

“The library will also be a part of my life because I’ll keep reading,” said Proctor.
