CSN Collision Centre to host Halloween house

It’ll be the 10th anniversary of a Spooktacular Halloween house in Palgrave this year.

CSN Collison Centre will host the event with proceeds going to the SickKids Foundation. Doors open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

“We’re super excited. We’re looking forward to a great year. The community has been really receptive of the event. From the comments we get back from them, they’re really looking forward to it so we’re hoping for good weather, for a good turnout and have some fun,” said Sandra Barbaro of CSN Collision Centre

Barbaro said they began handing out candy and thought they had a good crowd with the event growing each year. They set up decorations and let the children walk through the shop.

“We transformed the body shop area into a haunted house. We make different themes. We hand out treats to the children, we have the Palgrave Rotary Club here and they have hot chocolate and apple cider out in the parking lot. We give everyone a good scare,” said Barbaro.

She said they’ve worked with the Palgrave Rotary Club over the years and thought it would be a great addition to have them join in the event. The Club will host a chuckwagon at the haunted house as well.

“We’re happy with the relationship we formed with them. I think the community appreciates the warm drinks on the cold nights,” said Barbaro.

Barbaro said there is no charge for the event. She said they’re chose to donation to SickKids because it’s a foundation close to her.

“It’s a hospital that I used when I was a child. I was a sick kid and it’s always been dear to my heart. Any chance I get, I try to give back, said Barbaro.

“It’s something we never know we’ll need as parents.”

She said they usually make $1,000 through the event. They don’t charge for a specific amount but are happy with every little bit they get.

“Our goal in the end is just to get a good amount of donations so we can give back to the hospital, said Barbaro.

“We usually get about 450 children based on the number of treat bags I handed out in the past. We’re hoping for about 500 kids this year with their parents and guardians.”

The preparation process to transform the house take a lot of work.

“I spent the last two weeks stuffing treats bags. The main decorating happens the week of. On the 29th we’ll start emptying out the shop and everything starts going up,” said Barbaro.

The Caledon OPP will lend a hand helping out at the crosswalk for children to safely make their way across Highway 50.
