Unveiled last Thursday (Sept. 27), the school's staff, volunteers, students and parents all came out to celebrate this achievement. The existing play structure is only rated for children six years and older. A dozen parent volunteers from the Home and School Association successfully raised $41,000 in just one year for the new play structure, which was installed over the summer. “It's amazing. Everybody did it,” said Gen O'Brien, one of the volunteers. “The kids are loving it.” Throughout the year, the volunteers held various fundraising events, including weekly food days, popcorn days, a chocolate sale campaign, and a barbecue basket raffle. “We all know that physical activity is very important,” said Ms. O'Brien. “This is just such a remarkable community to make this happen,” said Stan Cameron, Caledon's public school board trustee, who was also on hand to unveil the structure. “When I look at that, I see thousands of volunteer hours that went into raising the money, that's a true community effort.” He described Caledon's school as being very “community-oriented,” and is very proud of the volunteers' efforts and success. The play structure features two slides, some climbing walls, and a puppet theatre, giving kids a variety of things to do. Ms. O'Brien added that the kindergarten students won't be confined to their fenced in area, and can be used for daycare during the school year, and summer time. “It was a lot of work by everyone, but it was just amazing.” --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2018-10-04 13:41:07 Post date GMT: 2018-10-04 17:41:07 Post modified date: 2018-10-11 11:40:57 Post modified date GMT: 2018-10-11 15:40:57 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
