Victory House, an organization that looks to offer a temporary home for women and children in times of need throughout Dufferin-Caledon, hosted a fundraiser for funding for their new building.

Over 75 people attended the event held on Friday May 11, which was a dessert and theatre night and raised around $3,000 for the new building that will be constructed behind the Caledon Hills Fellow Baptist Church on Airport Road.

“It was just amazing,” said Pat Valliere, executive director for Victory House.

She explained to the Caledon Citizen how this organization started when she was picking up women from Family Transition Place (FTP) in Orangeville. “The more I got to know them, the more I thought, “this is great, we have this emergency shelter,’” but wondered what the residents do, or where they go after that.

Victory House will have six rooms, two bathrooms, a sitting area, a full open living room and dining room, and a counsellors room. They will offer shelter for up to a year for residents, which Valliere says is to give them enough time to find a place of their own. Coaching programs, individual and group work will be offered “to assist in areas such as budgeting, housing, legal support, child  care, resume building or further education.”

Valliere added that those who come by must want to make a change. “What can we do to make a difference, and where can these people go to live a life, get back on track?” she explained when envisioning the organization.
