Caledon’s first heritage conservation district, the Village of Bolton Heritage Conservation District (Bolton HCD), is now designated under the Ontario Heritage Act.
The Town of Caledon has announced this allows for new construction or alterations on properties in the District, provided the neighbourhood’s cultural heritage is conserved.
The Ontario Municipal Board approved the HCD designation March 5.
“The Bolton HCD has been established to recognize, protect and enhance the heritage character of the historic village of Bolton,” General Manager of Community Services Peggy Tollet said. “The District includes over 180 properties encompassing the commercial core, the main crossroads of King Street and Queen Street, and portions of the adjacent residential neighbourhoods. The Bolton HCD Plan allows the Town to manage and guide future change in the area.”
Residential and institutional properties within the HCD are eligible for the Town’s Designated Heritage Property Grant Program, which offers annual matching grants to a maximum of $4,000 for small and mid-size restoration and maintenance projects, subject to available funding. The program guidelines and application forms are available at Caledon.ca/heritagegrants
Commercial properties within the HCD may be eligible for a variety of grants under the Bolton Community Improvement Plan, available at Caledon.ca/cip
