Three impaired driving charges over holiday weekendCaledon OPP reports officers were keeping an eye out for drinking and driving offences over the recent Family Day weekend. The result was between Feb. 16 and 18, they responded to three calls for service that involved drinking and driving. All three motorists in these occurrences lost their licences for 90 days due to an Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and lost the vehicle they were operating for seven days. When it comes to drinking and driving, police warn there is too much to lose. Drivers risk harming themselves and/or others, losing their licence, being arrested and charged criminally, and they can end up with a criminal record. American humourists Sam Levenson once said, “Learn from other people's mistakes. Life is too short to make them all yourself.” With that being said, police urge people learn from these mistakes. A 48-year-old man from Bolton was charged Feb. 16 after police responded to a collision in the are of Queen and Shore Streets in Bolton at about 5:15 p.m. When the officer spoke to the driver of a black 2017 Ford pick-up truck, it was determined his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The man was charged with impaired driving and driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The evening of Feb. 18 had police responding a report of a possible impaired driver heading north on Regional Road 50 in Bolton. Police found the suspect vehicle, a grey 2004 Honda Odyssey, at about 7:45 p.m. on Downey Drive. While speaking to the driver, an officer determined his ability to drive was impaired by alcohol. A 59-year-old man from Bolton was charged with impaired driving and driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol. Almost two hours later, police responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 10, near the Grange Sideroad. The found that an Audi A4 had collided with a guardrail in the northbound lane. An officer spoke to the driver, and determined her ability had been impaired too. A 33-year-old woman from Woodbridge was charged with impaired driving and driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol, as well as driving without insurance, using a number plate not authorized for the vehicle, and two counts of driving while under suspension. Police remind the public to call 9-1-1 if they suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs. In doing so, they could be saving lives. |
